Saudi Crown Prince Hosts Prince William on Historic Riyadh Visit
According to reports, the Saudi crown prince welcomed William at the start of a three-day visit set to continue through Wednesday. Prince Mohammed guided the British royal on a tour of the heritage site of Diriyah, recognized as the birthplace of the Saudi state and the capital of the first Saudi state.
The two leaders also posed for a commemorative photograph in front of Salwa Palace, a historic palace that once served as a seat of governance during the first Saudi state. The visit included a presentation of the Diriyah Gate Development Authority’s master plan. Diriyah is home to the historic At-Turaif district, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The trip represents Prince William’s first official engagement in Saudi Arabia, with the aim of strengthening the longstanding relations between the two countries that span over eight decades, according to reports. Saudi-British ties entered a new era of cooperation after the establishment of the Saudi-UK Strategic Partnership Council, which held its inaugural meeting in London during a 2018 visit by Crown Prince Mohammed.
