Riyadh Hosts Meeting of Coalition Political Directors Against ISIS

(MENAFN) Political directors of the US-led international coalition against ISIS (Daesh) convened Monday in Riyadh for a one-day meeting aimed at coordinating efforts against the terror group.

Chaired by Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Al-Khuraiji, the session brought together representatives from the coalition’s 90 member states, according to reports. Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani and the US envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, were also in attendance.

Discussions are expected to focus on "the security situation related to ISIS activity in Syria and Iraq, assessing the remaining threats posed by the terror group, ways to prevent its resurgence through sleeper cells, and strengthening security and military coordination," reports stated. A final statement is anticipated at the conclusion of the meeting.

Shaibani and Syrian intelligence chief Hussein al-Salama arrived in Riyadh Sunday evening to take part in the talks. Syria officially joined the anti-ISIS coalition last November. While the coalition has conducted military operations in Syria and Iraq since its formation in 2014, Damascus had not been a member until recently.

The new Syrian administration has been working to tighten security nationwide following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024, according to reports.
